Toronto Master Gardeners

The first meeting of the Toronto Master Gardeners was held at the Toronto Civic Garden Center in January 1988, with 20 new MGiT in attendance, all were ready and eager to start the qualifying Horticultural Courses from Guelph University.  Two years later 16 of the group Graduated as Master Gardeners.  Over the ensuing years the group has continued to flourish and grow in strength to its present 84 members, (69 Master Gardeners and 15 MGIT), four of our members are from the original founding group.

Our horticultural association was formed with the former Toronto Civic Garden Center, (now the Toronto Botanical Garden).

Projects include:
♦ Writing Organic Gardening Fact sheets for the City of Toronto.
♦ An ongoing project is writing Gardening Fact sheets, which are available on our Website.
♦ Providing support to the various Toronto Botanical Garden projects.
♦ Staffing an “Ask a Master Gardener Q & A Gardening Forum” on our Website
♦ Staffing a Gardening Info-line.
♦ A joint advertising project with the Composting Council of Canada.
