Durham
Durham Region, Ontario: The Durham Master Gardeners is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to provide accurate and in-depth gardening advice to the public. Its members consist of individuals who have achieved a high level of horticultural knowledge through recognized educational training and certification programs sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Ontario Inc.
Master Gardener volunteers provide advice by telephone, office or e-mail inquiries. They also make use of displays, classes and workshops. Home grounds/garden topics might include home fruit and vegetable production, planting, fertilizing, cultivation, care of trees, shrubs, lawns, and disease and pest control.
The Durham Master Gardener group members are from all areas of Durham Region and have practical experience and knowledge of Durham’s varied growing conditions. Many of our members are professionals in the green industry such as arborists, landscape designers and garden nursery staff. We provide 90 minute power point presentations on such topics as Potscaping, Successful Garden Planning and Native Plants.
Durham Master Gardeners was established in 1987. The group hosts a meeting the fourth Thursday of each month from September to June. Individuals who are interested in becoming a member or any organizations who would like a master gardener to attend their events can contact:

Peterborough and Area
The Peterborough and Area Master Gardener group was formed in 1990 and the first Coordinator was Kathy Pimmett. By the spring of 2005, our membership had grown to approximately 35 with members from Apsley, Norwood, Indian River, Lakefield, Young's Point, Omemee, Port Hope, Cobourg, Gore's Landing as well as Peterborough. This was a huge geographic area. In September 2005, with the suppor of the Peterborough group, about ten of our members from the Port Hope, Cobourg and Gore's Landing areas formed the nucleus of the Northumberland Master Gardeners. Our membership now services the Apsley, Havelock, Indian River, Lakefield, Norwood, Omemee, Peterborough, Warsaw and Young's Point areas.
Our group continues to be extremely active. Our greatest year round commitment is to The Peterborough Garden Show – For the Love of Gardening held the middle weekend of April at the Evinrude Centre. Members of our group sit on the planning committee while others provide support on subcommittees with responsibilities that include publicity, advertising as well as organizing and conducting workshops. Every one of our members is involved during the show hours.
Ecology Park – we support this project from May to October. We provide advice clinics twice a week throughout the season as well as at the spring and fall plant sales. We also present workshops.
We write articles that appear in the Peterborough Examiner each week from February to November.

Haliburton
The group of Haliburton County Master Gardeners was founded in April 2002. Although, as our name suggests, we serve Haliburton County, we have members from other areas, however, everyone gardens in Zone 4. Our group meets on the second Tuesday of most months, currently in the Community Room of the OPP building on the Minden Hwy.35 by-pass.We garden with the Grade 3 students from Archie Stouffer Elementary School at the Minden Hills Museum’s heritage gardens. In particular, each year, the students’ 3 Sisters Garden yields produce for the local food bank. Clinics are at the Minden & District Horticultural Society Flower Show, at Plant Sales and other appropriate venues. We are developing our own website but in the meantime, anyone wishing to contact the HCMGs can do so by contacting Pauline Plooard or our helpline. www.haliburtonmastergardener.ca Helpline: halmastergardener@gmail.com |
